Advantages and Limitations

Oct/ 27

“Audiences are not blank sheets of paper on which media messages can be written; members of an audience will have prior attitudes and beliefs which will determine how effective media messages are.” (Hanes)

This quote from Hanes brings me back to the lecture where the media vs. culture was raised, and during the lecture I agreed with the "mutual influence" I believe that as a culture we expect what we believe is acceptable, and as the media they provide what they believe is desired.
Thinking about my purchasing habit I came the the realization that most of my desired needs are similar to many other girls my age; as a puppet in the world of media I am influenced to watch the similar "drama" shows as well as wear the same kind of clothes "Aritizia, Coach, Juciy etc" like my fellow peers I also become interested in the same magazines "InTouch, People, InStyle". I am those typical girls who are so interested in the world of celebrities; a world that should not affect me. As a start to think about the world of media, I think that the reason as to why these "media" is so popular is only because we allow them to become our needs and wants.
