"Stupidity" Documentary Film

Stupidity takes an in depth look at the senselessness present in our society today. The documentary analyzes the “dumbing down process”, which is the result of useless material being produced to the public, and its effect on our intellect. Furthermore, the movie examines the unintelligent messages being communicated to us by depreciating mainstream media outlets. The visually stimulating clips illustrate the aftermath of a society, which has been bombarded with pointless information. From interviews with political figures like President Bush to movie stars like Salma Hayek, the film makes examples out of these people and demonstrates the stupidity present in our world. Its agenda is to convince the audience that due to technological advancements information is immediate and at our disposal however, the quality of information has decayed. Expert advice about the issue, from individuals like Noam Chomsky, helps to reinstate the movies arguments and give validation to its approach.

Neil Postman’s, Amusing Ourselves to Death, explains this trend in an educating way. The definition of 'being informed' has shifted and as a result we are being fed disinformation. Disinformation is unnecessary and immaterial; it appears to have signification but in reality hinders it. Rather than being rich with pragmatic substance, our contemporate communication industry lacks the capability of delivering knowledgeable facts.
